The overall objective of the UNESCO CFIT project in Zambia was to enhance teacher education for bridging the education quality gap. This entailed equipping teacher educators, teachers and student teachers with 21st century skills for enhanced and efficient delivery of quality education. Under the UNESCO CFiT Project, the college has been transformed into a Teacher Training ICT Centre of Excellence in the application of ICT as a pedagogical tool. The Project up-skilled the lecturers in online instructions using the Learning Management System (MOODLE), along with other complementary online pedagogical tools. They have been equipped in strategies of online tutoring.
Further to the above, the college’s ICT Infrastructure has been upgraded. The obsolete networking infrastructure was replaced with high-end networking cables, switches, hotspots and a server computer. The last mile of connectivity from the mission to the college was changed from a radio link to a fibre link cable. As a result of this upgrade in the network infrastructure, the college hosts its own Learning Management System (LMS), Mailing System, Library Information System (LIS) and the Student Information System (SIS). Lecturers produce interactive online instructional materials for distance and on-campus students which they access at anytime and anywhere.
